Miss Evelyn Griffin Jenkins

Former Headmistress (1967-1972) and the last London Missionary Society missionary headmistress serving Ying Wa

Dear alumni and friends of Ying Wa,

It is with great sadness to bring you the news of Evelyn Griffin Jenkins passing away peacefully at the home of the elderly in Kent, U.K. on 12 September 2021.  She was 91.

A graduate of the University of Oxford, Miss Jenkins joined Ying Wa in October 1956, teaching History, English and Scripture.

Miss Jenkins was a quick, sharp thinker, and she was very lively.  Students were charmed by her warm, gentle style and youthful image.  She became Headmistress of Ying Wa in 1967 and left at the end of 1972.  She also left, especially to her many students, unforgettable memories of a headmistress who brought about a lively and dynamic school life.

Her funeral was held on 7 October in St John the Baptist, Meopham, Kent.  A memorial service was jointly held by the school and the Alumnae Association on 17 October in the Silcocks Hall.  Please visit https://www.ywgs.edu.hk/news/miss-evelyn-jenkins-funeral-memorial-service for photos of the service.

Miss Jenkins will forever be fondly remembered by all at Ying Wa.  We pray for her rest in eternal peace in God's loving arms.

A memorial website (https://www.forevermissed.com/evelyn-jenkins/about) has been set up by the Alumnae Association for Miss Jenkins.  You are most welcome to leave your tributes there for sharing among the Ying Wa community and her family.
